We left Harrington Delaware and our friends at the FMCA
rally, heading for Reston VA. We drove west, and crossed the Chesapeake Bay
near Annapolis Md. The Bay was full of beautiful boats with their sails
billowing in the breeze, and Norm really felt sad, missing the wonderful
experience of being propelled along by the breezes in Ahneya, our sailboat that
is currently for sale. After crossing the Bay, we stopped at a local campground
to fill up our propane tanks. When she went into the campground office, Shelley
noticed that the staff was eating pizza for lunch, and she remarked that the
pizza looked good and that she was hungry. So, would you believe, she was given
two slices of pizza for us. Really remarkable.
We arrived at Lake Fairfax County Park, our home for the
next week. While Shelley checked in at the office, I separated our tow car from
the coach. She returned with our campsite number, and led the way up a hill to
a really pretty setting. In the campground people were doing all sorts of
camping. We noticed families in tents and small pop up campers all the way up
to large, luxury motorhomes. We leveled our motorhome and plugged in the power
(there was no water or sewer hook-up at our site, but they were nearby). I
cranked up the satellite dish but could get no reception. We needed our daily
TV fix, so we stopped at the campground office and got moved to a nearby site
where the reception was better.
During the week, we went back and forth every day (18 miles each way) to
Leesburg, VA, where our daughter Janice, her husband Rob and grandchildren Lilly
and Zack live. We spent the time there hanging out with our family, and doing
daily chores with them. Shelley spent hours and hours with Rob working on
setting up our computer system so that we will be able to stay in touch as we
wander through the country. On Friday evening, Lilly (age 5) and Zack (age 3)
came to spend the night with us!! We got home just before the skies opened
up!! The 4 of us ate dinner and watched "The Toy Story"!! The kids
were so excited about having an evening without having to follow their parents’
rules. On Saturday we brought them back to their home, where we also spent time
with our niece Claire. It was really a busy week, but its always wonderful to
be visiting family.
